Getting There

We are at the very bottom of Caminho João Fernandes Correia in the village of Seixal, directly across from the black sand beach. If you are driving from Funchal, follow the VE4 motorway north, then pick up the ER101 heading west along the coast. Look for the Seixal exit and follow the Black Sand Beach direction signs.

Best Times to Visit

Morning for quiet coffee and pastries. Midday for lunch with a view. Sunset for drinks and the golden light on the north coast cliffs.

A destination worth the drive.

Seixal sits on Madeira's dramatic north coast, where volcanic cliffs meet the Atlantic and a rare black sand beach draws visitors year-round. OBSIDIAN 17 is positioned directly across from that shoreline — a natural stop before the beach, after a swim, or midway through a north coast drive. The village is quiet, the setting is striking, and the pace is unhurried. Whether you are here for the morning light, a long lunch, or a sunset drink, the location does half the work.
